Alberton Property
The Alberton property market has stabilised and sales are picking up slowly
but surely. There were little new developments for a while but a few are starting up again
and marketing thereof will start soon. Alberton properties range in price
from ±R500 000, in certain suburbs, to as high as ±R5m in Meyersdal. The average
price of properties in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns are ±R850 000.
Repossessed and auctioned properties are currently fairly expensive and it
is therefore better to buy from estate agencies, as everything is included in the price. Auctioned
property has hidden costs and the property is bought “voetstoots”,
which makes planning and doing your homework essential.

Alberton is a rapidly expanding town to the south of Johannesburg in the province of Gauteng.
Together with Germiston, Edenvale and Bedfordview it forms the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
It has a population of over 200,000 and an industrial area with over 700 companies.
Situated on the banks of the Natal Spruit River, it is only 15 minutes from the OR Tambo International
Airport and Johannesburg CBD. Alberton is situated in close proximity to 3 highways (R59,

A boy by the name of Johannes Petrus Meyer, aged only 13, bought a piece of his father’s farm,
Elandsfontein. He opened a general store in 1870 and built a mansion in 1890. This spectacular
mansion can still be seen today. General Alberts purchased a part of the farm from Org Meyer,
who took over the farm on his brother’s death, proclaimed a township and named it Alberton.
The first official post office was opened in 1926 and construction of the new town hall started
in 1938. The Alberton Boulevard was development in the late 80's to early 90's.
Alberton's industrial area, Alrode, was established in 1943 by purchasing a part of the Roodekop
farm. Alrode is a well known industrial area with large national companies such as Dulux,
Holcim and the South African Breweries, which is the biggest brewery in the southern hemisphere.
Alberton property owners have many shopping centres to choose from such as
